Key Facts:

  • The World Cup of Hockey 2028 is expected to generate more than $375 million in economic impact, support over 42,000 jobs, and deliver nearly 172,000 hotel night stays.

  • The World Cup of Hockey 2028 will be the largest international sport event hosted in Alberta since the 1988 Winter Olympics.

  • The tournament will take place in February 2028 and will feature 17 games in total.

    • Scotia Place in Calgary will host six round-robin games and one elimination game,

    • Rogers Place in Edmonton will host 2 semi-finals and the championship game.

    • Prague, Czechia will be the European host city for the tournament, hosting 7 games.

  • The bid was selected over 12 other North American locations.

  • The 2028 tournament will be the fourth World Cup of Hockey, following events in 1996, 2004 and 2016.
